Dominic has been blogging at Belleau Kitchen since 2010 and has a lot of posts, comments and images. His blog was hosted on Blogger but he wanted to migrate to self-hosted WordPress with a simpler and cleaner design, while keeping his existing header image.
Dominic and Jo collectively reviewed the available themes for Belleau Kitchen’s new look with Dominic opting for the ever-popular Foodie Pro theme (affiliate link).
[Did you know that the Foodie Pro theme now is the in the top 10 themes for the top 1 million WordPress websites? With its minimalist design and flexible functionality it has been the best selling theme on StudioPress for approximately two years!]
Leeann came up with a simple colour palette in keeping with the header image, whilst ensuring a colour contrast ratio meeting WCAG AA guidelines.
The biggest part of this project was migrating the thousands of posts, images, labels and comments from Blogger to WordPress – no simple task when dealing with this volume of content. Once we had all the content in, we needed to convert and simplify the Blogger labels into WordPress categories and tags.
Now we had all the content organised we could set up the home page to showcase the latest posts in Dominic’s main topics, and set up the sidebar and widgets like the original Blogger site.
Finally we ensured that traffic from the old site would be properly redirected to the relevant page on the new website.
